# Lead Generation — AI Marketing Department

Lead Generation is the function that turns research and buying signals into qualified, routed leads. It builds prospect lists from the research shortlist and the signals your market gives off, enriches and verifies every record, qualifies each one against rules your team agreed, and routes it to the right owner with the context they need. It starts with a name that fits your ideal customer profile and ends when a qualified lead, inbound or outbound, is in the hands of the person who will work it.

## What it does

- Lead Generation works from two directions. On the outbound side it takes the accounts research has shortlisted and the signals that suggest timing, such as a new hire, a funding announcement or a change in the technology a company uses, and builds a list of the people who would own the problem you solve. Each record is enriched with role, company and contact details, then verified, so that what reaches your team is current. Lists are rebuilt on a weekly cadence and the changes are noted, not silently applied.
- On the inbound side it answers the people who come to you through demand generation and campaigns. A form submission, a demo request, a reply to a campaign or a question through your website is acknowledged by a defined first-response workflow within the window your team set, asked the qualifying questions you agreed, and recorded in your CRM. Every lead, from either direction, is scored against the same rules: fit with your ideal customer profile, the role of the person, the signal that brought them in, and any exclusions you have set.
- The output is a lead that is routed, not merely captured. Each qualified lead is assigned to the owner your routing rules name, with a short brief attached: who they are, why they qualify, what they have already seen or asked. Leads that do not qualify are held in a nurture list or closed with a reason, so nothing sits in a queue with no next step.

## Automated

- Signal monitoring: Research supplies the public timing signals for shortlisted accounts. Lead generation adds the signals from your own channels, website visits, form fills and replies, checked on a schedule against the triggers you agreed, and writes each match to the account record with its source and date.
- List building: Accounts from the research shortlist and signal matches are turned into contact lists by buyer role, deduplicated against your CRM, and held for review before they enter any sequence.
- Enrichment: Every record is completed with role, company and contact details from more than one source. Records that cannot be completed are dropped rather than passed on, and outbound verifies each address again immediately before a sequence starts.
- Qualification scoring: Each lead is scored against the rules in your ideal customer profile: fit, role, signal and exclusions. Leads over the threshold move to routing; leads under it go to nurture or are closed with a reason.
- Lead routing: Qualified leads are assigned to the owner your routing rules name, by territory, segment or round robin, with a brief attached. If the owner does not act within the agreed window, the lead is re-routed and the miss is logged.
- Inbound first response: A form submission, demo request or reply is acknowledged within the window your team set, asked the qualifying questions you agreed, and written to your CRM. The messages it sends are approved by your team before the workflow runs, and anything the workflow cannot answer or place is handed to a person.

## Supervised by a person

- Qualification rules: The scoring rules, thresholds and exclusions are written with your team at setup and reviewed with a person each month. The automation applies them; it does not change them on its own.
- List review before release: Each rebuilt list is read by a person before it is released to outbound or to your sales team. Your exclusions are applied here first; outbound checks them again before each wave.
- Borderline leads: Leads that score near the threshold, or that a workflow could not place, are read by a person who decides whether they qualify and records why, so the rules improve from the cases they missed.
- Inbound conversations: First responses that draw a question the workflow cannot answer, or a reply that reads as unhappy or confused, are routed to a person who writes the next message.
- Routing changes: When territories, owners or segments change on your side, the routing rules are updated in marketing operations and a person checks the first leads through the new path before the change is left to run.

## A note from the CEO

A lead is a person your team will call, so I care about who gets on the list and why. I read the qualification rules with you at setup and I look at the borderline cases myself. The workflows handle the volume; I make sure the volume is worth your team’s time.

## What you receive

- Prospect list (Weekly): Contacts by account, role, signal and verification status, with your exclusions applied and the changes since last week marked.
- Qualified lead briefs (As they happen): Who the lead is, why they qualify, the signal that brought them in and the owner they were routed to.
- Inbound response log (Daily, on business days): Every inbound lead, when it was acknowledged, what it was asked and where it went next.
- Nurture and disqualification list (Weekly): Leads held or closed, each with the reason, so your team can overturn a decision.
- Lead generation section of the weekly summary (Weekly): What was built, what qualified, what was routed and what changes in the rules next week.
- Qualification rules review (Monthly): The scoring rules and thresholds as they stand, the borderline cases read, and the changes proposed.

## Questions

### How can AI support a sales team?

By doing the work before the call. Automation watches for signals, builds and verifies lists, scores each lead against rules your team wrote, routes it to the right owner and answers inbound leads within an agreed window. Your sales team receives people who fit, with a brief that says why, and keeps every decision about who to call and what to say.

### What counts as a qualified lead?

Whatever your team defines at setup. The rules cover fit with your ideal customer profile, the role of the person, the signal that brought them in and the exclusions you set. Each lead is scored against those rules, and a person reads the borderline cases. The rules are written down, reviewed monthly and changed with you, never by the automation on its own.

### What happens to an inbound lead outside business hours?

The first-response workflow acknowledges it, asks the qualifying questions you agreed and writes it to your CRM, whatever the hour. If it qualifies, it is routed to the owner with a brief waiting for the start of their day. If the lead asks something the workflow cannot answer, a person picks it up in the next working window.
